Title: Explorations in modern combinatorics

Abstract: In this series of four-hour talks, I shall illustrate some of the techniques of modern combinatorics, and their application to digital communications engineering and quantum information theory, by reference to four topics:
(1) complex equiangular lines,
(2) the n-card problem,
(3) Costas cubes,
(4) strong external difference families.
Combinatorial designs will feature prominently, but I will not assume any prior knowledge.
